March 11, 2002- Good Landings are Possible
Today we went up to Concord. This was my first experience with flying
into a new controlled field. We did a little VOR navigation on the way and
touched up a little on stalls. It was a good exercise. We just did touch
and goes. There was a nice moderate irregular crosswind and a fair bit of
traffic in the pattern.
I pretty much managed all of the ATC from start to finish. I had actually
been doing this for weeks but it's easy at Livermore where you're comfortable
and familiar - it feels good to be able to handle it more "for real".
It was also a glimmer of hope. I really nailed two of the landings -
soft as a baby's bottom like they say without much help from Michael.
After the last month I was getting frustrated.
There was also another complication. This week (the 6th actually) I was
laid off. I looked at finances and worked out a plan that would let me
finish my lessons I had scheduled for March. My promise was that I would
quit lessons come April if I wasn't working yet. I really thought I'd get
to solo by the end of the month - I mean how long can you work on
landings? But that wouldn't happen as planned. It did all work out
though as you'll discover.
